Audi Shows Off Q3 In Detroit…and Vail?

Audi showed off a “themed vehicle” today at the North American International Auto Show.  The Q3 Vail is designed for “young people who love skiing and snowboarding.”  Hey, that’s me!

The Q3 Vail will come with a 2.5 liter turbocharged 5-cylinder engine.  It’s got Audi’s Quattro All-Wheel Drive system.  It’s full of details that will dazzle but my favorite is the electronic thermos that can chill or warm your beverage.  It charges up when you place it in the cupholder!  Also chargeable are two flashlights that incorporate a heating element.   In addition to using the flashlight to light up your surroundings, you can also warm up your hands.  Audi says they can even be placed in a ski/snowboarding boot to warm them up.  My guess is you can warm up any darn kind of footwear you want.  But for the sake of indulging the “Vail” angle, I’ll not pursue that detail any further.

When you’re putting on your nice warm boots, Audi has provided a heated mat in the back that will warm your tush as well as cover the rear bumper and protect it while you unload your gear.  It doesn’t look like you’ll be able to carry a lot though, the Q3 looks pretty small.

An interesting combination of materials makes up the upholstery of the Q3 Vail.  Millimeter-wide strips of leather and yarn are woven together to create the upholstery.  I can’t wait to check that out!

  1. Mmmmmm – I really like the heated mat covering the tailgate when I am putting on my ski boots! I think this just headed to the top of my must-have list.

  2. Now if only the Q3 could valet my skis to the gondola…
